God is Bigger Than Nature's Awe

Psalm  93

God is too vast for human comprehension.  People are often awed by scenes/expressions of power that are bigger than human resources.  People typically are awed by things such as floods, earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes, and tornados.  The powers unleashed by such phenomena defy human imagination and challenge human physical senses.  Most of us cannot believe the immediate aftermath of such power!  Yet, God is infinitely bigger!

If we gawk in amazement at the power of such storms now, just imagine how people shook their heads in amazement 3,000 years ago!

God is bigger than the most astounding display of power they saw!  Nothing ever diminished God!  God was incapable of doing “too much”!  He could not commit too many resources to anything!  God was as impressive after an event as He was before an event!  Nothing diminished God—not any display of power!

The psalmist focused on water’s impressive power.  A flood could defy human imagination as a peaceful waterway became a violent, pounding, uncontrollable force.  Sea storms raged as they destroyed or transformed shorelines!

Both were unstoppable!  All people could do was helplessly watch the devastation as they witnessed stormy water’s uncontrollable power.

As impressive as water’s power is, God is more impressive!  His royal laws are beyond human change.  Surely those laws can be denied and rejected by people, but not eliminated by people.  The Holy God remains Who He is in spite of defiant people.  Regardless of what people do, God remains unchanged!

The psalmist focused those people on God’s magnitude.  If phenomena in their experience amazed them, God is infinitely more amazing!
